Fórsa has welcomed the outcome of intensive talks at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) today (Friday) on the long-running dispute at Oberstown Children Detention Campus. Talks concluded just after midnight.
Fórsa national secretary Hazel Nolan confirmed that constructive engagement from all sides had secured a pathway to resolve the outstanding issues.
Ms Nolan explained: “Our progress today was clearly helped by a demonstration of the political will required to move this difficult dispute forward. A clear roadmap has now been agreed, providing a basis for addressing the remaining matters in a structured and time-bound way.
“On this basis, the union now has a set of proposals that can be put to Fórsa members at Oberstown. Fórsa will ballot members on Friday (28th August) and recommend a yes vote. Subject to the outcome of the ballot we will pause all industrial action,” she said.
Ms Nolan also acknowledged the role of the Department of Children, Disability and Equality (DCDE) and the WRC in facilitating today’s discussions.
She added: “This has been a complex dispute. The ultimate goal is to make Oberstown safer for everyone, and to ensure that is achieved in a sustainable way. The proposals agreed today will help move us closer to that goal.”
