Fórsa has confirmed that industrial action by ICT staff in local authorities has been paused following an invitation from the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) to engage in conciliation talks.
ICT workers in Ireland’s local authorities began work-to-rule industrial action last Wednesday (28th January) as part of a dispute over management’s failure to address longstanding concerns about workload, staffing levels and the lack of recognition for the specialist nature of their work.
The Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) has indicated its willingness to enter talks. The WRC has invited both parties to attend conciliation and requested that industrial action be paused while discussions are underway. Fórsa’s Disputes Committee has suspended the action with immediate effect, and the union has confirmed its intention to attend the WRC this week.
Fórsa national secretary Richy Carrothers advised members this afternoon to return to work as normal while discussions take place.
